WELCOME TO Alamo Heights High School Business Incubator Program

Developing Visionaries Into Tomorrow's Leaders

Your Path to Entrepreneurship Begins Here...

WHO WE ARE

Empowering Dreams One

Start Up at a Time:

The Heights Business Incubator allows students acquire foundational business concepts, then team up to apply those concepts as they launch their very own business. Principles from the LEAN startup movement help students test their thinking. From concept to Minimum Viable Product to Pitch, students are collaborating, hypothesizing, testing, adapting and learning.

From Idea to MVP

Market Research

Students learn to search through industries and market sectors to find an overlooked gap in the market.

Business Plan Development

Students employ the Lean Canvas Business Model to vet their ideas and select the most viable business idea.

Prototyping & Pricing

Students work with financial experts and production experts to engineer their designs into real products with smart profit margins.

Financials & Funding

Students learn from the experts on a variety of topics from pricing, costing, and even how to secure investors including 2 annual pitch nights where students compete for investment funds.

Legal & HR

Students are walked through the process of hiring a team, securing vendors, filing for business licenses, and securing necessary third-party testing for their prototypes.

Go To Market

Students are taught the fundamentals of building a brand, creating a marketing and sales strategy and bringing a new product to market.

Community Volunteers

Students have the opportunity to work with volunteer business coaches and mentors and their classroom teacher. Coaches are volunteer business and content area experts. Students will learn from their real world experiences and unique business perspective. Each student team will be assigned a volunteer mentor. Mentors will guide and advise teams as the develop their business concepts. Classroom teachers are the educational professionals who will manage the class dynamics and provide continuity.

Coaches

As a Coach, you work with students in their class to help them learn the material you present through lectures and activities. You will choose the lesson that aligns with your business expertise (e.g., marketing, finance, sales). INCubatoredu provides you with complete lessons with presentations, student activities, and curated resources. If you wish, replace the professional examples used in the lesson with your experiences. However, we ask you to use the lesson’s content. Work closely with your teacher to ensure you have access to the materials needed for the days you are in class.

Mentors

As a mentor, you facilitate learning, which is different from directly teaching. Students will look to you for answers, but you must help them understand how to search for solutions. Mentors meet with student teams once a week for at least an hour. The energy and effort will increase before key milestones such as the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Pitch near the academic year’s mid-point and at the year’s end.

Community Partners

Our Students compete for real money to start their entrepreneurial venture. They are able to draw from the fund, generously built by our community partners. Every team presents for the opportunity to draw $500 to build their MVP.

Then the teams who move to the stage compete for $10,000 top prize, $8,000 second prize, $5,000 third prize and $1,000 people's choice award, that they then use during their Accelerator Year to grow their business. Accelerator teams are so coached and provided with opportunities to pitch to Angel Funds and Private Equity.
